I know how important it is to allow children to warm up and feel comfortable in the presence of someone new. This is why I always allow ample time for photographic sessions. I will spend time getting to know your little ones before the camera comes out. Building this initial rapport and having a bit of fun helps to later capture their youthful energy, enthusiasm and inquisitiveness.
When booking, I will consult with you as to the types of photographs you would like to create (indoor/outdoor, lifestyle/studio) and will discuss with you possible locations and best times of the day. After booking in, I will call you prior to your session and discuss locations, what to expect and what to wear to your portrait session.
On the day of the shoot I will spend up to 2 hours with you at your chosen location For babies and littlle ones it is best if we can organise photo sessions to take place as soon as we can after a nap and a meal, to ensure that they are contented and in the best possible mood, however for outdoor sessions this needs to be light dependent for the best time to shoot portraits outdoors is first thing in the morning at sunrise, or in the last two hours before sunset.
Any colours of clothing can work well in photographs (bold, brights, warm, soft or neutral) so it depends on what you prefer and what suits your family's skin colouring and personality! I love when families add a little colour to their outfits. We certainly don't need you all to be in jeans and white t-shirts.
Be careful to make sure that if more than one person is to be in the photos that the chosen colours complement each other, rather than clash. Keep it simple. Busy prints, bold spots or stripes, pictures and logos are usually best avoided as they can detract attention from your family's beautiful faces!
For larger families and extended families it is a good idea to select a colour theme of three colours such as red, white and blue, or soft pink, blue and white and then mix and match so that the colours all work together.
You are welcome to have one outfit change for the kids to to mix things up a little bit and it is always a good idea to have a back-up outfit for each family member (especially the kids) in case they get wet, food/drink spills occur or someone puts muddy shoe prints on Dad's clean white shirt! Trust me it happens, regularly!
